Bull Bay, St. Thomas residents protest lack of water

Traffic was brought to a standstill for more than one hour on Tuesday morning after residents of Ten Miles in Bull Bay, St. Thomas blocked the road at the border with St. Andrew to protest a lack of water.

The road had to be cleared by the police. A resident outlined that the condition has been poor for years, but little has been done to improve it.

In the meantime, James Robertson, Member of Parliament for St. Thomas Western said the water supply problem is something he has been working to address for years.

He said he has made contact with the NWC to resolve the problem that affects sections of East Rural St. Andrew and Western St. Thomas.

"In terms of short term plans, while there seems to be unrest, I'm trying to make sure water is supplied to the area," he said.

"The residents have a ligitimate cause and claim because the water supply systems in St. Thomas have not had the investments required to keep them modern," added the MP.

Mr. Robertson said he would be speaking with the minister with responsibility for water as well as continuing discussions with NWC to secure the development of water resources in the area.
