Eighteen-year-old Alecia King returned to Jamaica from Texas on Tuesday where she was flown for emergency medical treatment in August last year for severe burns.

The teenager was doused with flammable liquid and set ablaze allegedly by her ex-boyfriend in Linstead, St. Catherine on August 24.

She was airlifted with assistance coordinated by the Sanmerna Foundation.

Speaking at a press conference at AC Hotel on Tuesday, Director of the Foundation Robert White said he is pleased that the organisation and its partners were successful in helping Alecia in her recovery.

"What made it so special with Alecia is that the doctor says she was minutes away from dying, minutes away. And they did every single thing to ensure that they save her life. And she's here today with us."

The occasion was also used to celebrate Alecia's 18th birthday.

In the meantime, the suspect in her attempted murder remains on the run.

The police say 18-year-old Antwone Grey is also wanted for malicious destruction of property and assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

Senior Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, head of the Jamaica Constabulary Force's Corporate Communications Unit, said the police have carried out several operations to locate the suspect.

"One of the sad things that's happening around this case is that we have information that he's getting the protection of immediate family and community members. All the persons involved are from the same community. And I believe that even if it's somebody that we love, it is important that we all come together to get justice for Alecia," she urged.

She said Grey is thought to frequent Tawes Pen, St. John's Road and Central Village in St. Catherine.

"I'm sure because he was a teenager at the time, we did not show his image. But come tomorrow, his image will be on our Wanted Wednesday feature," SSP Lindsay announced.

She appealed to his relatives to hand him over to the police.
