A St.
Elizabeth bus conductor who was
found in a compromising position in a house with three school girls two years
ago was on Friday sentenced to 18 months hard labour suspended for two years in
the St. Elizabeth Circuit Court.
Marlon Stewart of Brompton in the parish pleaded guilty to charges of indecent assault on Monday.
The court was told that on May 28, 2007 members of the Black River Police acting on information went to an unfinished house at Brompton when Mr. Stewart was seen in a room with three female students ages 13, 15 and 17 in compromising position.
Mr. Stewart was also seen using a cellular phone for taking pictures and video taping the girls.
The four were taken into custody and the telephone seized.
Mr. Stewart was initially charged with indecent assault and carnal abuse which was later upgraded to trafficking of persons.
When he appeared in the St. Elizabeth Circuit Court his attorney requested to see the alleged video and photograph however after seeing the items he told the court that he wished to enter a plea of guilt on the lesser charge of indecent assault.
During sentencing Mr. Stewart was given a stern warning by presiding judge Justice Marva Bishop to be more careful.
Justice Bishop said that based on the social enquiry report and the antecedent presented by the police indicating that he was sorry why he was given a sentence which would allow for him to remain in society.
In recent years the police in St. Elizabeth have seen a spike in the number of sexual offences being reported involving public transport operators and school girls.
