Bus driver killed, 13 injured in St. Elizabeth crash

The driver of a public passenger vehicle died in a crash on the Font Hill main road in St. Elizabeth on Thursday morning.
 
He has been identified as Junior Ramsay, of Fort William in Westmoreland.
 
At least thirteen passengers were injured and taken to Black River Hospital. One woman is said to be seriously hurt and is undergoing surgery.
 
Superintendent Coleridge Minto, head of the St. Elizabeth Division, says the crash occurred about 4 a.m. and involved a Toyota Hiace bus. 
 
"This motor vehicle was on its way travelling in an easterly direction from Sav-la-Mar heading towards the direction of Black River. This is along the Font Hill main road. It is reported that driver lost control of the vehicle, which resulted in it overturning several times," he reported. 
 
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
 
Passengers reportedly told the police that the driver was attempting to answer his phone when he lost control of the vehicle.
 
Superintendent Minto is imploring motorists to exercise caution on the Font Hill main road as there have been a number of serious crashes.
