Call for Spanish Town to be recognised as tourism mecca

The St. Catherine Parish Council is advocating for special attention to be given to Spanish Town as a tourism mecca.

Addressing the recent monthly meeting of the Council Jamaica Labour Party Councillor for the Point Hill Division, Devon Wint raised concern that the old capital is not being recognised for its tourism potential.

In response, Chairman of the Council, Dr. Andrew Wheatley said over the last five years successive governments have failed to implement plans for the old capital as a tourism site.

He said the constant excuse is usually about the crime situation in Spanish Town, but that situation should no longer be an impeding factor.

He added that the tourism Minister Ed Bartlett has given little focus to Spanish Town but expressed hope that the Prime Minister's intervention will address the problem.
