Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced his intention for Canada to join ReArm Europe, a major European defence initiative, by July 1.
The plan aims to significantly boost defence spending in Europe over the next five years to reduce reliance on the US.
Carney criticised Canada's current defence spending, noting that 75% of it goes to the US, which he called "not smart".
His comments comes amid strained relations with the US and President Donald Trump, though Carney says he remains open to participating in a US-led
missile-defence project.
