The lockdown at Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, which was called into effect after shots were heard at the entrance to the Capitol Visitor Center Monday afternoon, has been lifted.
Capitol Police report that a suspect pointed a gun at an officer and the officer fired one shot, striking the suspect.
The wounded suspect has been taken to hospital. His condition is unknown.
A female civilian bystander was injured by shrapnel, but no U.S. Capitol Police officer was injured.
The DC police have said the shooting was an isolated incident and there is no active threat to the public.
The White House was also on lockdown immediately following the shooting, but has since been reopened.
