For the second time this month the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has lowered its COVID-19 travel advisory for Jamaica.

After moving the country from level four to level three on March 14, the designation was further adjusted on Monday to level two.

Destinations carrying the "Level 2: COVID-19 Moderate" designation have recorded 50 to 99 cases per 100,000 residents in the Last 28 days.

However, the CDC still warns travelers heading to Level 2 countries to make sure they are fully vaccinated.

Delano Seiveright, Senior Strategist in the Ministry of Tourism, believes the new CDC designation should boost Jamaica's tourist arrival figures to pre-pandemic levels earlier than expected.

Already, he said, stop-over arrivals were increasing rapidly and cruise ship arrivals were also picking up.

Accordingly, he's predicting that "by the summer (or) a little later in 2022 we're going to be in a very good position; much closer to 2019 numbers."
