Jamaica's Constitutional Court will begin hearing arguments on Monday in a lawsuit brought against the State by Leighton "Livity" Coke, brother of jailed drug kingpin, Christopher "Dudus" Coke.
The younger Coke is seeking compensation, after claiming that he was beaten by soldiers at the Horizon Adult Remand Centre last year. Other high risk prisoners, including former head of the Klansman gang, Tesha Miller, also made similar claims.
In the suit, Coke says his constitutional rights were breached as a result of the beatings and that he was treated inhumanely during his incarceration.
The JDF claimed that Coke was injured while being restrained after he attacked three soldiers.
The Commissioner of Corrections, the Chief of Staff of the Jamaica Defence Force, the Ministry of National Security as well as the Attorney General are respondents in the suit.
