A convicted drug dealer in England
has been cleared of murdering a popular young man in the Jamaican community in North London whose parents are Jamaicans.
The accused, known drug dealer Paul Minto, was found not guilty of the murder and manslaughter of 26-year-old Shawn Callum by jurors at the Old Bailey Criminal Court in Central London recently.
Mr. Callum, popularly known as Pinky, was gunned down as he left a party, at Stonebridge Primary School in North London just after 2 o'clock on the morning of February 7 last year.
Witnesses claimed Minto, who had been released from prison nine days before Mr. Callum's death after serving a term for plotting to sell class A drugs, fired the single shot, which hit Mr. Callum killing him instantly.
In court, Minto admitted he was at the party but denied he had killed Mr. Callum, claiming he was outside making a phone call and had been framed by the dead man's friends.
The prosecution led evidence that Mr. Callum was gunned down after he was caught up in a row involving his cousin, known as 'Reds,' and a friend of Mr. Minto.
In defence the court heard that the victim's friends had plotted to accuse Mr. Minto of the murder.
Minto told the court he had heard his name being speculated as Mr. Callum's killer but claimed other names were mentioned as well.
Two others who have been accused of the murder were also cleared of Callum's murder in earlier trials.
