The man who slashed the
throat of a policeman on duty at Jamaica House in December was again remanded in
the Corporate Area Criminal Court on Thursday.
Andre Pratt, 22, who is receiving treatment for mental illness was declared fit to stand trial and the presiding magistrate said she will consider bail when he returns on February 16.
Mr. Pratt, a cash book officer at the Inland Revenue Department, was charged in December following investigations into the alleged attack against the police constable.
On December 3, Mr. Pratt went the Hope Road entrance of Jamaica House demanding to see the Prime Minister.
He attempted to enter the compound but was prevented from doing so by the policeman on duty.
The police constable reportedly turned his back on Mr. Pratt to attend to another visitor when Mr. Pratt pulled a knife and slashed him across the throat.
Mr. Pratt ran but was chased and held by the wounded cop who was assisted by an off duty policeman.
The injured cop was taken to hospital where he was treated and released.
