Cops arrested in connection with prison break

Four cops, including a policewoman  have been arrested in connection with the escape of a prisoner from a police lockup in the western parish of St. James. The escapee was recaptured at the policewoman's home.

According to police reports, the prisoner, who's facing several charges for crimes committed in St.James, Hanover and Westmoreland escaped from the Freeport lock-up in late January. He  was re-captured last Sunday at the home of a policewoman who was subsequently arrested.

Investigations surrounding the circumstances leading to the escape of the prisoner from the Freeport lock-up, and the involvement of police in the escape, is being conducted by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) and the St.James Police.  

Detectives from the ACB also arrested a Special Constable from the western city of Montego Bay  and two other police officers from the Westmoreland Division, for what they believe to be their involvement in the escape.
