Councillor wants help for Alligator Pond farmers struggling since Beryl

Councillor for the Alligator Pond Division in Manchester Omar Robinson is appealing for assistance for farmers who were affected by Hurricane Beryl and the recent flood rains in September.

 

Earlier this week Mr. Robinson also called for the release of the promised funding for Hurricane Beryl relief packages.

 

He says Local Government Minister Desmond McKenzie promised an allocation of $500,000 toward the care packages, a commitment he is yet to fulfill.

 

Mr. Robinson says Agriculture Minister Floyd Green must urgently move to address the plight being faced by the farmers. 

 

"It cannot be business as usual. The Ministry of Agriculture need to come out and help these farmers that were affected the most. I'm calling on the Minister. I'm calling on the Minister to come on the ground. Reason with the farmers. See what is happening for himself because the damages are evident but the compensation, those are few. Let me also call out RADA on this, and let us have a transparent system that those who are affected will get compensation. Let's do this and help our farmers," he insisted. 

 

Mr. Robinson previously revealed that suppliers have been clamouring for payment after providing goods on credit.
