Courts employee charged with fraud

A former employee of furniture company, Courts Jamaica Limited, was remanded in court on fraud charges.

Alicia Lindsay, 34, the Information Technology Support Officer at Courts, appeared before the Corporate Area Criminal Court on charges that she stole millions of dollars worth of furniture and appliances from the store.

She was charged last Wednesday after the company uncovered a major racket at its headquarters on Slipe Road.

It is alleged that from 2008 to June 22, 2010, Ms. Lindsay manipulated the computer system and created a number of fictitious invoices.

This led to the company delivering nearly $3 million worth of furniture and appliances to her friends and relatives across the country.

Investigators say these included Plasma TVs, computers, beds, sofas, and exercise machines, among other things.

Courts called in the police who recovered some of the appliances.

Ms Lindsay has pleaded not guilty and is to return to court on Friday.
