Danvers Pen road opened to limited vehicular access

The National Works Agency (NWA) is reporting that the Danvers Pen main road in St. Thomas which was affected by a major breakaway due to heavy rains has been reopened to small vehicles.

Stephen Shaw, Communication and Customer Services Manager at the NWA, says a section of the hillside is still eroding and the agency is now looking at a permanent solution for the problem.

“It is not advisable that operators of large vehicles, trucks attempt to use it, there is a breakaway, the hillside continues to come down and impact the roadway and so we are looking at a permanent solution. In the meantime persons are being advised not to attempt to use the road from Hall Head,” Mr. Shaw said.

On Sunday residents were left stranded in the community after heavy rains destroyed the main road leading to Danvers Pen.
