Daring Manchester robbery a failure of police - Bunting

Opposition Spokesman on National Security Peter Bunting
By Halshane Burke

Opposition Spokesman on National Security Peter Bunting has deemed Friday's daring heist in Mandeville at the Bank of Nova Scotia as a failure on the part of the police.

Men armed with high powered weapons stole two bags loaded with an undetermined sum of money after an exchange of gunfire that left five people nursing gunshot wounds.

Mr. Bunting says there is a heightened sense of insecurity among the Jamaican population.

"It is really a failure of intelligence, police intelligence, police investigation, and police operations that we can have this happening over and over again with no apparent effective response from the JCF (Jamaica Constabulary Force)," he argued.

Mr. Bunting reasoned that onlookers to these types of robberies might conclude they are a result of inside information, "either from the courier company, the banks, either from the police because the impunity with which these robberies are being carried out suggests that they are well planned, they have inside information, and each success seems to encourage another".

"I haven't heard any statement from the JCF regarding the investigations, but I'm hopeful that some investigation is taking place," he said.
