The police have surrounded an apartment building along Caledonia Road in Mandeville, Manchester where a gunman has barricaded himself inside.
The man is suspected to be among people who shot and killed a man inside a car earlier.
Police are assembled at the entrance of the apartment building where it is reported that the man, who is believed to have been involved in the earlier shooting, has locked himself inside the building.
He is said to have fired at the police on their approach.
Earlier on Tuesday, the driver of a car was shot along Caledonia Road. He lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the back of another.
The driver sustained multiple injuries and was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The man who has locked himself in the apartment building is believed to be one of the culprits who was involved in that shooting.
Curious onlookers have gathered at the scene.
