The Ministry of Education has instructed Dinthill Technical High School to immediately withdraw a controversial letter, requiring parents to sign a a form agreeing to remove their child from the school, if the child does not make satisfactory progress in conduct and grades.

This requirement has reportedly been included in the procedures for enrolling new students at the St. Catherine based school.

Byron Buckley, Director of  Corporate Communication at the Ministry of Education, told RJR News that the decision was made to order the abandonment of the policy, because it was not in keeping with best practice.

"That can't be used as part of an admission document," he declared.

Mr Buckley also addressed another requirement by the school, demanding a blood test be included in students' medical record.

"Parents, we advised them, must be free to get the examination done by any certified medical practitioner, and in this regard, the need for a blood test to be done is to be determined by the medical examiner, and requested of the child's parent."
