Director of Elections Glasspole Brown has outlined a series of activities that will be undertaken to establish the final constituency boundaries for Portmore, even as there remains a lack of consensus on the matter.
The government used its majority in the House of Representatives last week to pass legislation to make Portmore Jamaica's 15th parish.
The amendments to the Counties and Parishes Act were passed despite resistance from the opposition.
It is to be debated in the Senate.
Mr Brown told Radio Jamaica News that a guideline is set out by the Commission to guide the process of establishing the boundaries.
He said a Constituency Boundary Forum will first be established to begin the process.
The Parliamentary Opposition has threatened to petition the courts to challenge the bill to make Portmore a parish.
