Representatives of three public sector groups representing nurses and midwives, who have been restive since last week over the non-payment of retroactive salaries and allowances, are locked in a meeting with Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton.
The meeting is taking place at the headquarters of the Nurses Association of Jamaica.
Registered and enrolled nurses as well as midwives wore black for several days to demonstrate their frustration with the lack of response from the authorities on outstanding uniform and overtime payments.
Former NAJ president Patsy Edwards-Henry says nurses are continuing to wear black until an agreement is reached on the outstanding payments.
"The meeting is in relation to issues that we are having in relation to closure of the compensation review which started in 2022. So as we are here this morning, you notice we are dressed in black. We are not protesting, we are not off duty, but we are supporting our president," she insisted.
