DPP rules in case against NWC President Mark Barnett and his wife

By Prince Moore

The Director of Public Prosecutions has confirmed that her office has issued a ruling in the Integrity Commission case in which NWC President Mark Barnett and his wife breached building, planning and environmental permits for their development located at 11 Charlemont Drive, Kingston 6.

Up to news time details of the ruling had not been made public.

Director of Public Prosecutions Paula Llewellyn told Radio Jamaica News that the decision has been communicated to the Integrity Commission which investigated allegations of irregularities in the approval processes for the complex on Charlemont Drive.

A copy of the detailed ruling was also sent to the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and the National Environment and Planning Agency.

The Integrity Commission report stated that the permits granted by the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation and the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) were for the development of twelve 1-bedroom units.

But the Integrity Commission's report further indicates that the development consists of six 2-bedroom apartment units and six 3-bedroom units, in clear violation of what was in the permit.

Mr. Barnett was placed on administrative leave by the NWC board last October.
