The Ministry of Education's Region 7 has launched a probe into reports of students being denied entry to Central High school over breaches of the school's dress code.
This follows a report received by Radio Jamaica News on Wednesday, that several students were barred for failing to comply with hair, uniform and footwear guidelines.
Regional Director Barrington Richardson told Radio Jamaica News that his office received no prior reports in relation to the matter, and he only learnt of the incident via the media.
"I subsequently referred the matter to the officer to do an investigation. I have not received a report just yet, so I am not able to say until I get that report. But there was no prior report to me until I heard it on the radio and also in the print media."
He said the ministry continues to abide by the provisions under the updated grooming policy, which states that students are not to be barred.
But he maintained that he cannot comment on the particular case without an investigation to determine the specific circumstances.
At the time of the initial report, Radio Jamaica had sought a comment from the school's principal, Stellavit Ingram, but was unsuccessful.
When Radio Jamaica News managed to reach Mr. Ingram, he denied the reports and said neither he nor the dean of discipline were aware of any such claims.
