One of Jamaica's most celebrated educators, Glen Archer is dead.
The educator, spelling bee and schools challenge quiz coach died early Sunday at the University Hospital of the West Indies, where he was admitted late last year, due to kidney failure and its related complications.
Since his illness became public, friends, colleagues, formers students and associates had established an account for donations to be made to offset his medical expenses.
A Facebook page had also been created called Friends of Glen Archer, to celebrate his achievements and to laud his work.
Archer,61, was a dedicated academic in Jamaica's education system, and rose to national prominence for recruiting several youngers to the World Scripps Howard Spelling Bee Championships.
