Eight families left homeless by fire in downtown Kingston

Eight families are homeless after fire ripped through their houses in a mid-morning blaze at the intersection of Charles Street and Luke Lane in downtown Kingston. 
 
Among those displaced are four children and twelve adults. 
 
There are no reported injuries as a result of the blaze which started around 8:30 a.m.
 
Deputy commission in charge of operations for the Jamaica Fire Brigade, Warren Malcolm, told Radio Jamaica News that the department was alerted to the blaze about 8:45. 
 
But one resident, Annette Wright, who lost her home, claims the fire department was swiftly informed but there was no truck to respond immediately.
 
"Man all drive go up there, go and call the fire people them.... When them come, dem seh a way from St. Thomas one a di unit a come from... and when one come, no water," the woman who said she lost everything in the blaze, complained. 
 
"Everything mi lose.... Mi affi just stand up and just a bawl and a watch dem a bun... Mi upset 'bout di fire truck. Mi upset 'bout di government. Dem affi duh supm better," she demanded.
 
Deputy Commissioner Malcolm told Radio Jamaica News that units from Trench Town, Rollington Town and York Town battled the blaze.
