A former member of the Organised Crime Investigation Division, OCID, on Monday testified that members of his team arrested and later executed Kemar Walters and Oliver Duncan, the two men who disappeared eight years ago on the Washington Boulevard.
He said, there was also a scheme to cover up the killings.
The ex-policeman was continuing his testimony at the trial of three policemen accused of the 2004 murders.
The three policemen on trial are Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Victor Barrett and corporals Paul Edwards and Louis Lynch.
Duncan and Walters were arrested at the Washington Boulevard Plaza by members of OCID on December 23, 2004, after they were held in possession of a stolen Honda CRV.
According to the key witness, his colleagues shot dead the two men, while they were in their custody.
He told the court that two hours after the police handcuffed the men and drove them away from the plaza, he made contact with Corporals Edwards and Lynch.
He said he was concerned that they had not taken the men to the base at OCID.
He said when he made inquiries about the men's whereabouts, Corporal Edwards told him they were dead.
He said Edwards told him he pumped some bullets in Duncan because, “He was saying he was not afraid and was ready for anything”.
The witness said he was told that Walters was begging for his life, but they had to kill him because he had seen too much.
The witness added that he and the other cops then burnt the stolen Honda CRV in an open lot somewhere off the Port Royal main road.
He told the court that he was left in shock by the actions of his colleagues.
The former policeman said ASP Barrett helped them to fashion false statements when concerned persons began asking about the whereabouts of the two men.
The witness testified that the senior policeman told him not to take the stolen Honda CRV back to base but to take it to a private place.
He said initially he drove the vehicle to Wareika Hills in East Kingston.
However, he got a call and joined up with the other cops.
He said they took the vehicle to Port Royal where they burnt it.
He further testified that another member of the team, Lawrence Clayton, was disturbed about the entire incident and scolded his colleagues for acting in a foolish manner by killing the men.
During his testimony, he said a civilian, a friend of his, was present when they were destroying the vehicle.
That civilian is expected to be called by the prosecution during the trial.
The witness said he was arrested in 2005 but was released after witnesses failed to identify him.
However, he said when he was re-arrested in 2009 he decided to come clean by telling the truth to clear his name.
He said it took him four years to tell the truth because he was initially in fear.
