Delroy Britain, father of three sons with special needs
While most parents were able to send their children back to school on Monday, Delroy Britain is making an urgent appeal for help to get his three boys enrolled.
Mr. Britain's sons, aged nine to 13 years, have been out of school for the last two years.
They have special needs and need to be enrolled in a special education institution.
"What really happened is that [the mother] took them away, so that's why. But I thought that she did have them into school, but I got to recognise after they come back that they wasn't into school none at all. I'm trying my best to see if I can get them into school, but because they cannot go to ordinary school, they have to go to special school," said the father, who relayed that he had already spoken to a school administrator who said the school would only be able to take one of the boys.
Mr. Britain said his sons need individual professional assessments, but the waiting list is lengthy and could extend from late this year into next year. He added that he is unable to work as he must care for them full time.
"To manage them at home is not an easy road because it's just like me alone and then I cannot leave them going anywhere because I know they are children. So anywhere I'm going, I have to have them behind me," he explained, admitting that even if he does get odd jobs occassionally, "At the end of the day, I won't get a full day work because of them. It's very difficult."
Despite the difficulty, the father remains committed to his children and is hopeful they can get the help they need, noting, "I personally don't want to lose my children, none at all. I really want to grow with them because I really love them."
