Six months after its launch, the Jamaica Constabulary Force's Agricultural Protection Branch (APB) is already showing results.
In December alone, the unit recorded 81 arrests, secured 34 convictions and recovered livestock valued at $7,372,000 through the Yuletide Agricultural Resilience & Enforcement Initiative.
The arrests were made under the Agriculture Produce Act, Larceny Act, and other related legislation.
In a statement, the JCF said the impressive performance in just one month underscores the need for specialised units to fight crimes against farmers, including praedial larceny and other agricultural-related crimes.
