Finance Minister remains in intensive care

Finance and the Public Service Minister Audley Shaw remains in hospital after collapsing during a meeting Wednesday.

General Secretary of the Jamaica Labour Party Karl Samuda told RJR News that Mr. Shaw had a restful night in the Intensive Care Unit of the University Hospital.

"He will remain in the ICU today (Thursday) until they have completed all that has to be done, but there is nothing to arouse any alarm. He is resting comfortably and we are hoping that by tomorrow he will be released," he said.

Mr. Samuda says the doctors have not yet made a definitive diagnosis.

Mr. Shaw was rushed to hospital Wednesday afternoon after fainting during a specially convened meeting of some members of the Cabinet.

Meantime, Chairman of the People's National Party, Robert Pickersgill is expressing hope that Mr. Shaw will recover quickly and be able to resume his duties soon.

Mr. Pickersgill said the PNP is concerned at the sudden nature of his illness and hopes that the prognosis is not too serious.
