A fire at Kingston’s Norman Manley International Airport on Friday evening reportedly did not result in any major damage or any injury.

PAC Kingston Airport Limited (PACKAL), operator of the airport, in a statement on the matter, said the fire was confined to “the Club Kingston area of the terminal.”

PACKAL said the terminal building was safely evacuated, “ in accordance with our emergency protocols, and there are no reported injuries at this time.”

Airport emergency response teams and local fire services were working to contain the situation, the company added.

The airport management also advised that images from a scheduled emergency simulation exercise on Thursday and now being circulated on social media, “are not related to today's actual incident.”

Commissioner of the Jamaica Fire Brigade, Stewart Beckford told Radio Jamaica News that fire personnel received the call about 6:50 pm., whereupon two units were dispatched to extinguish the blaze.

The Fire Brigade is now investigating the cause of the fire, he said.

Transport Minister Daryl Vaz said, as a result of the fire, the arrival of a British Airways flight en route from London had been delayed, but that it was hoped this would not be a lengthy schedule disruption.

"Hopefully, we'll be able to land it and turn it around with (only) a slight delay," he said.
