Five persons have been detained by the St Elizabeth Police, in relation to the allegations of child abuse at the Atlantis Leadership Academy in Treasure Beach.
Deputy Superintendent Coleridge Minto, commanding officer for the St Elizabeth police division, confirmed that the individuals were taken in for questioning, but he told Radio Jamaica News that he was unable to comment further on the matter.
During an unannounced visit to the facility by the Child Protection and Family Service Agency on February 8, signs of abuse and neglect were reportedly observed, leading to the immediate removal of eight American boys.
One of the boys, who had recently 18, returned to the United States.
The remaining boys have been placed in residential care facilities while the matter is before in court.
