A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St. Thomas, Kingston and St. Andrew, St. Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St. Elizabeth and Westmoreland.
The Meteorological Service says this is effective until 5 p.m. Thursday.
A Tropical Wave west of Jamaica is interacting with an area of Low Pressure across the south-western Caribbean and is expected to result in unstable weather across the country over the next few days.
Projections are for periods of showers and thunderstorms, which may be heavy at times, to affect sections of most parishes, especially southern parishes, continuing this afternoon through to Friday morning.
Fishers and other marine interests, especially on the south coast, should exercise extreme caution as sea conditions will deteriorate in the vicinity of showers, thunderstorms, and strong gusty winds.
A Flash Flood Watch means flash flooding is possible, and residents are advised to take precautionary measures, keep informed by listening to further releases from the Met Service and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed or if a Warning is issued.
The Meteorological Service will continue to monitor the system.
