Two foreign nationals have been taken into custody by the police in Montego Bay, St. James after they were found attempting to smuggle cocaine out of the country.
The foreigners, a Dutch national and a British National, both males and whose names have not been released are facing charges of possession of, dealing in and attempting to export cocaine.
According to information about 2 o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the Dutch national was about to board a flight to Brussels when his luggage was searched and cocaine weighting approximately one kilogram was found in a pair of shoes.
About four hours later the British national was about to board a flight to London when he was searched and cocaine weighing approximately one pound was found strapped to his body.
The two are to be questioned later this week by police personal attached to the Area 1 Transnational Crime and Narcotics Division.
According to a source, the police have been making success in preventing the two airports from operating as trans-shipment points for cocaine.
The source says a large number of foreign nationals have been held at both international airports in recent months, trying to smuggle cocaine in and out of the country.
