The police in St. Catherine have arrested four men as
they continue their clampdown on illegal scrap metal dealers.
The four men, who are employees of the Innswood Sugar Estate, were Tuesday each offered $200,000 bail when they appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court.
The men are accused of stealing metal items from the sugar estate.
Charged with simple larceny are 25-year-old Rondy Wallace, 42-year-old Donald Henry, 23-year-old Christopher Thompson and 22-year-old Trevor Smith, all of St. Catherine addresses.
The court was told that between September 20 and October 20, the men removed two generators, a transformer and machines valued at $5 million from the sugar estate.
When the equipment were discovered missing the management called in the police.
Following investigations the men were arrested and charged.
They are to return to court on December 4.
