Government proposes "watch list" to keep an eye on Dons

The Jamaican Government is moving to establish a watchlist of persons, including dons and gang leaders, who will be subjected to enhanced surveillance.

The plan was announced by Prime Minister Andrew Holness during his budget presentation on Tuesday.

He argued that for too long, persons with criminal organisations have been proceeding with impunity, freely conducting their illicit activities and that it's time for this to end.

He also pointed to the existence of watch lists in other countries.

Persons placed on the watchlist by the courts will be subjected to enhanced surveillance and other measures.

Research is being undertaken to guide the establishment of the watchlist.
