Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness
Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness says road development will take a more holistic approach going forward.
Dr. Holness says the built environment must support and reinforce the natural environment in the process of development.
The Prime Minister says claims that the government is turning a blind eye to the environment as it pursues development of the country's road network are without merit.
"So it's not just a corridor for traffic. It's a utility corridor but we're adding one more dimension to it. It is now a corridor for trees. So all the roads that we're going to be doing now, we're going to ensure that we have reservations enough to have a cooling effect of trees being planted along our corridors. Now that cooling effect is good from an environmental standpoint," he noted.
He was speaking Monday at the handing over of tree relocation equipment valued at $76 million.
