Residents in Kingston and St. Andrew (KSA) should see significant improvement in their water supply over the next two years.

A contract was signed Wednesday for a 15 million gallon per day capacity water treatment plant at Content in St. Catherine.

The project is expected to cost $9.6 billion.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness said the facility, to be completed within two years, will benefit 150,000 customers in the Corporate Area as well as Portmore and Spanish Town.

"It will reduce the need for future trucking of water and reduce if not eliminate the need for water restrictions to affected areas during periods of drought," he touted.

Mr. Holness said the new plant should build the country's resilence so that even if there is an environmental weather shock, "we should be able to maintain the required level of supply to this critical productive area of Jamaica".
