The second One Day International (ODI) between the West Indies and Ireland ended in a no-result after rain prevented Ireland's reply in Dublin on Friday. Sent to bat, the West Indies posted a competitive 352-8.
The foundation for their total was laid by Keacy Carty with a second ODI century, 102 0ff 109 balls including 13 fours and one six.
The Windies total was also highlighted by a spectacular joint fastest ever ODI half century by Matthew Forde who blasted 50 off 16 balls.
The 23 year old Barbadian joined South Africa's AB De Villiers as joint world record holder for the fastest ever ODI 50.
He also erased Chris Gayle’s previous West Indies record of 50 off 19 balls. Forde eventually went for 58 off 19 balls including 2 fours and 8 sixes.
Captain Shai Hope also made 49 and Justin Greaves an unbeaten 44. Liam McCarthy took 3-66 for the Irish.
Other than breaking De Villers’ record, 97% of Ford's runs came in boundaries, the highest for a 50-plus score in men's ODI cricket.
The previous record was 96 percent by Andre Fletcher versus Bangladesh in 2009. The third and final ODI to be played on Sunday at the same venue. The Windies trail 1-0 in the 3-match series after losing the first ODI by 124 runs.
