A security guard employed to Atlas Security and a robber
were killed after an attempted robbery at the Portland Co-op Credit Union, Buff Bay
branch on Monday morning.
The men who were pretending to be customers, then attempted to take the security guard's firearm.
During a struggle a third man entered the bank and shot the security guard three times.
The guard received injuries to his shoulders and to his lower body.
Then men then left the building with his firearm.
The Buff Bay Police who got wind of the situation gave chase.
During a running gun battle two of the men were shot.
The police then launched a search for the third man and shortly after 1 o'clock, he was spotted in the same area where his cronies were captured earlier.
Another shoot-out ensued and he was fatally shot.
The security guard was taken to the hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.
The injured robbers have been hospitalised under police guard.
The identities of the men have not been released.
