A consortium of Guyanese business people has written to President Dr. Irfaan Ali expressing alarm at the increase in businesses operated by non-naturalised Chinese nationals.
They have raised concern that the Chinese nationals are not adhering to laws and regulations governing enterprises in the South American country.
Among the issues identified are the failure to provide tax invoices for purchases, the lack of a Taxpayer Identification Number on invoices, and not charging the applicable Value Added Tax.
Additionally, the consortium says the breaches raise concern about accountability and oversight, adding that their operations are posing a serious threat to the Guyanese business community.
They have asked for a meeting with the President to address their concerns.
