Narda McKoy, the mother of 17-year-old Jalisa McGowan
Narda McKoy, the mother of 17-year-old Jalisa McGowan who died after reportedly being denied treatment at the University Hospital of the West Indies, says she has been contacted by the Minister of Health as she faces a longer wait on the outcome of an investigation.
Mrs McKoy told Radio Jamaica News that she spoke with Dr. Christopher Tufton on Thursday and he apologised for not contacting her sooner and vowed he will "keep [her] up to date with whatever happened."
Jalissa was buried on Tuesday.
The Ministry of Health on Thursday announced that it had ordered a more detailed review into the death of the teenager on February 26.
The ministry has instructed the board of the University Hospital to appoint an independent panel to lead a further review of the case and the implementation of corrective actions related to patient flow and treatment.
