The Ministry of Health is appealing for patience from Jamaicans while it works on increasing the cadre of health care workers for vaccination sites.

There have been increasing complaints about too few vaccination sites across the country.

The number of days that the sites are opened is also a talking point.

But Dr. Melody Ennis, Director of Family Health Services in the Ministry, says there are not enough staff members available to meet the increasing demand for vaccines.

"We wish we could have a vaccination site on every corner because it is so important to get persons vaccinated, but recall it's the same staff that we have, that have to be in the clinics, that have to be doing everything - that are vaccinating, that are also testing," she sought to explained.

Still, Dr. Ennis said the ministry is "trying to improve on the numbers of persons who are inoculated and we going to be going out into communities more."

More than 200 retired doctors and nurses are being vetted for the vaccination programme.

Training personnel from private hospitals to administer COVID-19 vaccines also started this week.

Education Minister Fayval Williams has said more schools will be used as vaccination sites. She said details on exactly which schools will be involved will be communicated to principals, parents, students and other stakeholders.
