Immigration Officers in St. James restive

Scores of  immigration officers attached to the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency, PICA, are reportedly restive.

The more than 100 officers, who are assigned to the Sangster International Airport, are upset over what they say is the inequitable manner in which a special allowance is being paid. The National Workers' Union, NWU, which represents the officers, met yesterday with officials of  PICA at the Labour Ministry however, a settlement was not reached.

The union wants the intervention of  Minister with responsibility for the public service, Horace Dalley. NWU General Secretary, Granville Valentine, says the workers are being paid less than their colleagues in Kingston. He said normalcy cannot be guaranteed at this time.
