Income tax threshold goes up today

The first phase of the increase in the personal income tax threshold for Pay As You Earn (PAYE) workers in Jamaica is now in effect.

As of today, the threshold moves to $1,272,000.

The second phase of the increase will result in a personal income tax threshold of $1.5 million, effective April 1, 2017.

The changes were announced by Finance Minister Audley Shaw when he opened the Budget Debate in April.
