The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is holding the High Command of the Jamaica Constabulary Force to its word that it is acquiring additional body worn cameras.

INDECOM Commissioner Hugh Faulkner says during the last consultation on internal processes with Police Commissioner Dr. Kevin Blake, he accepted that there is a direct drive to acquire the cameras.

Speaking Monday on TVJ's Smile Jamaica, Mr. Faulkner reiterated the importance of body worn cameras to INDECOM's investigations.

"For the INDECOM investigation to be maximised and for the enquiry to be complete, it is essential that the JCF and the law enforcement bodies hasten the process for the acquisition of body worn cameras. Yes, you'll get statements, but in some instances, the sole potential witness civilian is deceased. There are instances also when the victim may be mentally challenged and cannot give you a coherent and clear and chronological account of the story," he pointed out.

He said with 59 fatal police shootings so far this year, the 189 recorded last year could be surpassed.

"If 189 persons were killed in 2024 in police fatal shootings for the entire year, at this rate, there would have to be a drastic reduction for us to fall under that number," said the INDECOM commissioner.
