The People's National Party has strongly condemned what the terms "inflammatory" and "reckless" statements made by Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness at a political rally in St. James on Sunday night in which he called for Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) supporters to stage counter protests on Monday in response to the PNP's planned action.

The PNP has indicated that it plans to protest at the National Heroes Circle at 8:30 a.m. against the controversial appointment of Dennis Chung as the new Chief Technical Director of the Financial Investigations Division (FID).

Speaking at a St. James West Central constituency conference on Sunday, Dr. Holness called the protest "manufactured rage" and "crisis that doesn't exist".

He called for JLP supporters to stand up against the opposition "and to protest against this hypocrisy", calling the PNP's action "badmindism".

But PNP General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell said such language, especially coming from the head of government, is deeply irresponsible and dangerous, adding that statements "undermine democracy itself".

Dr. Campbell said it was not a call for civil engagement, but for confrontation. He noted that the PNP's protest on Monday will be peaceful, principled and within the bounds of the law.
