Trinidadian Austin Jack Warner was released on TT$2.5 million bail on Thursday morning, after he appeared in court for a request by the United States for him to be extradited to face several charges in New York.
Mr. Warner, a former FIFA vice president, has been ordered to surrender his travel documents and will reappear in court on July 9.
This follows yesterday's indictment of nine present and past FIFA officials, including Mr Warner, and five corporate executives, on bribery, money-laundering and other corruption charges.
Garvin Nicholas, Trinidad & Tobago's Attorney General, said he had received a copy of the extraditoion application.
Mr Nicholas said the application has been taken before the courts to be approved. He said the length of time to process the request will depend on factors such as the level of evidence against Mr Warner and if there is an appeal.
