Jamaica 50 project to be restructured

The country should hear in another two weeks, the details of a report,   on the restructuring of the Jamaica 50 project.

According to Culture Minister Lisa Hannah Cabinet approved the restructuring of the programme, based on the findings of an in-depth review by the Jamaica 50 Secretariat, which had the responsibility for drafting and implementing the existing programmes.    More than 138 projects were already planned by the previous Government as part of the celebrations.

The new administration has raised concern about the categories of the projects, the objectives, and the budgetary allocation to fund them.

Robert Bryan  has been appointed to head the project, following the termination of the contract of Project Director Lenford Salmon.

The Contractor General and the Auditor General have also been engaged to provide an audit of the project.

Meanwhile the former Minister under whose tenure the plans were made, remains confident that the decisions made were appropriate.

Opposition Spokesman on Youth, Sports, Gender Affairs, Entertainment and Culture, Olivia 'Babsy' Grange, is not perturbed with the possibility of the Contractor General and the Auditor General probing the project.
