A decision has been made that Jamaica will not use the Cuban drug, Interferon Alpha 2B to treat coronavirus patients at this time.
The anti-viral drug is a among 30 other drugs being used around the world.
The Ministry of Health says the recommendation came from the group of experts tasked with reviewing treatment options.
Among the reasons given was insufficient evidence to support the unreserved use of the drug at this time.
In addition, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Jacquiline Bisasor McKenzie said "the administration of the drug requires nebulisation which is aerosol generating and thus not recommended for patients suspected or confirmed for COVID-19."
She said the side effect profile of the drug includes fever myalgia, diarrhoea, depression and death.
