With wildfires affecting countries around the world due to extreme heat caused by climate change and global warming, one Jamaican expert is warning that Jamaica could possibly suffer similar disasters.

The latest wildfire to catch global attention has taken place in Maui, an island in Hawaii, where 93 people have so far been confirmed dead in the fire that razed the historic town of Lahaina, making it the most deadly US fire in a century.

Evan Mr Thompson, Principal Director of Jamaica's National Met Service, noted on Sunday that this country has already been experiencing drier conditions which could fuel wildfires.

Mr Thompson, speaking on Radio Jamaica's That's a Rap, disclosed that the Met Service has developed an index to alert the Jamaica Fire Brigade to areas susceptible to bush fires in order to assist them in their response.
