Jamaica is reportedly among regional countries which have contacted the government of the Cayman Islands about purchasing excess COVID-19 test kits from the British Overseas territory.
This stems from a report that the Government of the Cayman Islands says it is prepared to sell up to half of its COVID-19 test kits to other countries in the region.
Speaking during a recent media briefing, Premier Alden McLaughlin said the territory's Chief Medical Officer, Dr. John Lee, advised that 100,000 kits would be enough for the population.
The territory initially procured 200,000 kits – although only 165,000 have arrived. The other kits are being kept in the UK.
A deal has been agreed to sell 20,000 test kits to Barbados while Bermuda has been offered the 35,000 kits in the UK.
It was also disclosed that Jamaica and other countries in the region, including St. Lucia, Belize and The Bahamas have made inquiries.
